Observation the class

Observation the Class (HED-116: Issues in Child Develop and Health)

This class which I had great time was lecture style. Students interacted with their professor giving a question and answer. Mostly students listened the lecture, and also sometimes take notes and ask questions. The professor used the power point and gave the case study for students. This class was structured by introduction, explanation, doing case study, and discussion. Every students considered the different of case study and answered the question. The topic was practical and relative to children; thus, it attracted me a lot; however, difficult part was listening because she uses many technical terms, so it is difficult to understand some of details for me. Thus, I afraid that I misunderstand some of important points from the professor and how I can pass the examination without understanding.

The students were expected to before attending class was doing assignment and learning more about children’s abuse. I didn’t know the exactly assignment; however, students already knew the basic knowledge about children abuse; thus, I think that they research about this topic and writing research paper before the class. This time, professor didn’t give the any homework for the next class, but after the class they were expected to get deep their knowledge and use this skill when student become a teacher.

The end of the class, the professor asked different question to each student for confirm their understanding. Surprisingly, all students answered her questions very well.

There were almost 25 students in the class, and I determined one of the student who was most successful because she took a seat in the front row, listened carefully, and asked questions a lot.

The topic about child abuse was very interesting, and I enjoyed a lot because I learned same subject in Japan; however, that definitions are different from Japanese. Thus, many information were new for me. Therefore, I realized that I really need to study about this major by American style if I want to be a kindergarten teacher in U.S.A.

Most difficult part was listening, I understood main point of the lecture; however, I really didn’t understand what students talking about was because they use broken English which I’m not convenient and also they speak faster and unclear than professor; thus, I should have some native friend and practice English to improve my listening and speaking skills to success in this class.

What I liked about the class is interaction between professor and students; for example, professor prepare a lots of practical case studies and students answered positively. What was different from my other class is many students were young, however I surprised that they were studying very seriously and asked a lot of questions during the class. I could see that they have a clear purpose which they become a teacher and get the license in the community college.

From this observation, my vison became clear, and I found the problem which now I have to confront; therefore, this experience will be significant for my future.

  6. Why are the “Methods” a critical aspect of a research study?

Part B –

  • Find a research journal STUDY related to children’s mental and/or emotional health that is of interest to you.  (Non-research journal articles or articles that only refer to a study will NOT be acceptable.)
  • (You can find research journals in the library or on the web.  If you are using the internet to find an article, be sure that it is a research journal with actual research that is “full-text”. You can search via MCCs library page. Librarians can assist with questions.)  In addition, there is a separate document on Blackboard and the M-drive entitled, “CHassign2researcharticlesteps” for assistance in using the MCC library links page.
  • An example of a research journal article of a study can be found on Blackboard.  It is a PDF file named “Article Social Anxiety 1.”  Be certain that your selected article shows the study results formatted like this article sample, not just a journal article that REFERS to a study! 10 Points Total

Assignment plan:

The most important aspect of the assignment is finding the research journal about children’s mental and/or emotional health to deepen student’s knowledge, and they learn about research study and research paper such as the difference between journal and magazine article, understand the structure of the research paper, etc.

I have four questions to professor:

1: When is the due date of this assignment?

2: How many pages’ should the research paper be that I find?

3: How many research papers do I need?

4: Do I need reference page? What type of citation should I use?

The step of the approach:

Most difficult part is to find a research journal related to children’s mental and/or emotional health because I have to skim each paper and consider which one I will use; therefore, finding proper journals should be take a long time.

Before the project, I have to read carefully this assignment to identify what I need to do.

Part A:

– Find a PDF file from Blackboard and read it. (1 hour)

–  Answer 1 to 5 questions. (1hour)

– Organize your answer to make paper (1 hour)

Part B:

-Find an example of a research journal article from the Blackboard and read it. (1 hour)

– Find my research journals which related to children’s mental and/or emotional health in the library or on the web. (2 hour)

-Make sure that my article is following the assignment direction. (30 minute)

-Read the article which I found, and Describe the purpose and answer the question 1 to 4. (1 hour)

– Organize your answer and write the paper (2 hour)

– Read the assignment paper again and correct the format and spellings. (30 minute)

– Attach a copy of the study to this assignment. (5 minute)

I need one day for part A and two days for part B; thus, I should begin working three days before the due date. (I put the time which I may take each step.)

In my opinion, I need two pages research paper for part 1 and three pages for part 2 to make appropriate for this level of assignment. However, we don’t need to any specificity and depth skills for this assignment; thus, beginner college student can take this course.

Before the submission I need to read the assignment paper again to confirm that every contents are included, and correct formats, Syntaxes, grammars, and spellings.

Impact of child education

a;
This is data from (JAMA May 9 2001).
In comparison of children who had early childhood education and those who did not have them.
The author describes that participation in an early childhood intervention for low-income children was associated with better educational and social outcomes up to age 20 years:
“children who participated in the preschool intervention for 1 or 2 years had a higher rate of high school completion (49.7 % vs 38.5%); more years of completed education (10.6 vs 10.2); lower rates of juvenile arrest (16.9% vs 25.1%); violent arrests (9.0% vs 15.3%); school dropout (46.7% vs 55.0%).”
Thus, preschool programs are central to many human service reforms because public investments in early educational programs in the first decade of life can contribute positively to children’s later success.
b;
This research intended to provide the evidence of how early education has an influence on the children’s future.

a;
(Heckman 2012) argues that childhood education has big impact toward the economy of the country. Especially in the age of birth to five, families need to invest for quality early childhood development such as “parent coaching” and early childhood education programs; however, economic disadvantage constrains some families without wealth to be able to do so. Without resources, many children at risk miss the developmental growth that is the foundation for success; therefore, they will suffer for the rest of their lives, and all of us will pay the price in higher social costs and declining economic fortunes as a whole society.
b;
The purpose of this research it to understand how children in higher age need education, and where we should invest for economic development.

a;
“Unless the world tackles inequity today, in 2030: 167 million children will live in extreme poverty, 69 million children under age 5 will die between 2016 and 2030, 60 million children of primary school age will be out of school” (UNICEF 2016).
The UNICEF report mentions that many countries around the world have increased expenditures for education; however, unfortunately spending is often skewed in favour of the most privileged pupils because poor children are more likely to drop out of school early, thereby losing the benefits of public spending. The UNICEF research on low-income countries overall shows that children from the richest 10 percent of the population receive around 46 percent of the benefits from public spending on education; therefore, increasing investment in education does not bring a better learning outcome, but the bigger issue is how resources are allocated for more efficiency and effectiveness.
b;
The purpose of this research is to determine how many poor children cannot reach early childhood education, and what the government investment is.

c;
Early education has impact on school dropout rates and future income and hence individually to each child. Moreover, it also has positive effects toward lower rates of juvenile arrest and our economy and therefore to the society as a whole. Thus, this research influences readers to perceive the importance of the early child education, and additionally to give teachers opportunities to improve their paradigm about child care.

d;
Early education (birth to five years old) is important for children’s future. It is especially significant for children who are suffering from extreme poverty. I saw that a lot of African children do not go to school; therefore, they cannot escape from poverty. Their family has to notice that education leads to eventual economic gains, and society needs to support them to improve the situation of the country.
In my opinion, early education should not only involve going to pre-school or kindergarten but also support from adults and communication with those who love them because the children need to learn how to obtain curiosity, motivation, free will and strong mind. Those skills are also necessary to build the foundation of their lives.

Early childhood education trends

 According to National Institute for Early Education Research(http://nieer.org/news-events/early-education-news/us-failing-invest-enough-one-most-critical-periods-children%E2%80%99s)

Considerable research shows that well-designed early childhood programs can help children, particularly those who are disadvantaged, build social, emotional and academic skills that can help them as students and in life.The US seems to have missed that memo.In 2014, it had one of the lowest enrollment rates for children in early childhood and pre-primary programs among the world’s richest 35 countries. Only three do worse than the US at offering programs for kids aged three and four: Turkey, Switzerland and Greece. In the US only 42% of three-year olds and 68% of four-year olds were enrolled; among countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation the average is is 71% and 86%, respectively.”

In Japan, almost of 3 years old children didn’t go the school 30 years ago, but now it is changing; because number of  mother worker increase than before,so it’s strange that why American 3 years children don’t go  the school even though a lot of mothers has a job.

we can’t say “3 years children must go to the school; because it depends on their environment of home, but it is true the children can learn a lot of things from out side of their house.

I came here for…

I’m studying English at Rochester Institute of Technology now, because I’d like to learn American children education.

I’d like to improve my English at RIT, and I’d like to have many friend and meet  people to make connection for live in USA.

There are some difficulty to live in here, one is the transportation  . I can’t go anywhere and buy anything even there are many kind of restaurant and supermarket if i don’t  have a car. There are public bus ,but it’s inconvenience . I using bus to get to my school , but it’s only  once an hour. that’s not enough at all.  so i’m planning to buy a car now; however i am enjoying abundant nature which I couldn’t see in Osaka and Abu Dhabi. There are parks and jogging trails everywhere; moreover we can see many wild animals like squirrel,and deer.They are very cute. And ELC teacher are very kind even though they give us a lot of homework………

I think those experience like learning English hard and  adapt to new country culture will change my Japanese life.Before I was always working at the Japanese school even I live in out of Japanese country .but in the future I hope that I can work international school,too.

Now I could become a student again, this experience is valuable,so I joined the African drums club. I had learned the African drums when i was in Senegal, but now I learning Ghana style rhythm which is very interesting, and also i’m looking for a brass band club to adapt USA community and culture.I believe that this adapting skill can be benefit when i came back to Japan.
